The American Citizen Services (ACS) unit of the Consular Section provides information and assistance to the U.S. citizens resident or traveling in Ghana.
Hours of Operation
The ACS unit is available to assist U.S. citizens with passport services, notarial services, federal benefits services and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) for American citizens born in Ghana: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. All services are by appointment only. Please review our security regulations when making an appointment.
The ACS unit is available to assist U.S. citizens with emergencies during working hours: Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
We are closed on Ghanaian and American holidays.
After-hours emergencies are handled by the embassy’s 24-hour duty officer. Emergencies include the arrest, serious illness, injury, destitution or death of a U.S. citizen.

You should receive an automatic reply acknowledging receipt of your email, followed by a response to your email within three (3) business days. NOTE: If you did not receive our automatic reply then we did not receive your email. Email is the preferred method of communication for all non-emergency ACS inquiries.

The ACS unit accepts emergency calls during working hours:
Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Emergencies include arrests, serious illness, injury, destitution or death of a U.S. citizen.
Non-emergency inquiries are accepted during ACS call-in hours:
Monday – Thursday, 3 p.m.. to 5 p.m.
Friday, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
We are closed on Ghanaian and American holidays. If you are calling from the United States, please dial 011-233-30-274-1000. From within Ghana, please dial 030-274-1000. (Please note that this number does not respond to visa-related inquiries.) This number can also be used to reach the 24-hour duty officer for after-hours emergencies.
